BIG BLACKROCK SURVEY

We are currently working with a company called iReach to find out what local residents and local business want for our Village. There will be a major canvassing of opinion and we plan to use the results to direct our activities into the foreseeable future.  Watch out for this survey!  We will be actively driving it later this month.  Your opinion matters to us!

Partnerships Starting to Build!

Our new partership with Vincennes, France is starting to build on a number of fronts.  Vincennes Golf Club will visit next year, as will Vincennes Yacht Club.  The Frascati Singers and their counterparts in Vincennes are already planning for their next joint activity.  One new exciting bit of news is that there will be a GAA tournament in Vincennes at the end of November and a team from Kilmacud Crokes will participate.

New School seeks Blackrock connection

A new primary school opened in Vincennes in January 2019 with modern and state of the art facilities for 158 children.  There is a particular emphasis on the teaching of English with English being taught in a very intensive way.

The teaching team is eager to launch an exchange with a school in Blackrock or indeed in the wider Dun Laoghaire area consisting initially of having Skype discussions between classes.

The link below gives more detail on the new school: https://www.vincennes.fr/inauguration-de-lecole-simone-veil-vincennes.   For any further queries please contact us at blackrockbusinessnetwork@gmail.com.

SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN VINCENNES

Vincennes each year organises a soccer tournament for teams of young people from U9 to U12 for boys and U11 to U13 for girls.   In 2020, the tournament will take place on 30 and 31 May for boys, and 21 May for girls.

It is a very challenging and interesting tournament for the young. Firstly, they can use all their talents in soccer, and secondly, they will be able to meet with other European young players and participate to the awareness-raising activities towards environment and citizenship organised during the tournament.
Vincennes would like to give priority to clubs in Blackrock /  Dun Laoghaire area for 2020.

Accommodation, breakfasts and dinners will be provided by the French club.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic on 21 July 2019 was very well attended, with lots of Teddys fixed, and there was interesting use of the Island by the magician.  The day was overcast but the crowds there managed to avoid the rain, which sympathetically stayed away until late afternoon.

Blackrock Athletic Club

Blackrock Athletic Club was founded in 1944.  It is based in Carysfort Park, Blackrock, Co. Dublin and caters for athletes at both junior and senior level.  It has one of the largest Juvenile memberships in Dublin.

Unlike many of its contemporaries, which have either gone out of existence or been forced to amalgamate with other clubs, Blackrock Athletic Club has proudly withstood the rigours of time.  It will celebrate its 75th Anniversary in November 2019.   We congratulate the club and wish them every success in the years ahead.
