Achievements by the BBA

Branding Blackrock

Together with the Bradley Brand, the BBA developed a new logo for Blackrock following many months of development and extensive consultation with members of the Blackrock Business Community. The logo is contemporary, warm, and a subtle variation on the Blackrock Dolmen by Rowan Gillespie which depicts three elegantly elongated bronze figures holding ip a large capstone to symbolise the essence of Blackrock.

Blackrock.ie

New website launched for the Blackrock Business Association has a number of new features and benefits for members including an up to date news feed and a directory listing all businesses.

Village Square

The Village Square has had a very comprehensive renovation and together with attractive planting and high quality street furniture is a huge improvement on the previous cold and grey appearance.

Signage

The BBA together with DLRCoCo in 2015 identified 6 "Welcome to Blackrock Village" signage locations: Barclay Court Junction, Newtown Ave/Seapoint Rd Junction, Bath Place, Mount Merrion Ave/Rock Rd Junctions, Rock Rd at Blackrock Park entrance and Carysfort Ave/Frascati Rd Junction. The signs are now in place and give Blackrock Village a much more appealing and welcome first impression. Further long overdue signage has been developed at the DART station and at various points in the Village.

Investment & Planning

Blackrock village... We've got it all launch event took place in November 2015 to promote Blackrock village as an established business location of choice and to highlight the commercial benefits of locating in Blackrock.

DART Maritime Garden

Following discussions with Irish Rail and as a result of the generosity of Windy Ridge Garden Center, a very attractive maritime Garden was developed in 2015 close to the entrance to the DART station.

Village Brochure

We are always looking at ways of attracting people into Blackrock and one of these ways was the development of a new Village Brochure in early 2015. This took a lot of work with graphic designers over many months and our first print run of 10,000 copies has been distributed far and wide to hotels, tourist centers, etc.

MRBI Survey

The BBA commissioned an IPSOS/MRBI survey in 2015 aimed at identifying impediments to shopping in Blackrock. The results have been very telling and informative and are forming the basis for future BBA projects aimed at promoting business in the Village.

Local Area Plan Submission

The BBA drafted in 2014 a very robust submission to the Council in response to their floating of the draft Local Area Plan. A small committee worked very hard on this and provided the Council with a very comprehensive and credible submission.

Future Projects & Events

Seafront & Blackrock Park: The BBA is always looking at ways to improve business in Blackrock and to improve Blackrock as a better place in which to live, work and shop. Two aspects of the Local Area Plan (LAP) submission that are at the top of our agenda are the development of our urban seafront and the development of better access to Blackrock Park. Development of this local potential is a must if we want to make Blackrock the attractive and striking location it should be.

Blackrock Bloomsday: Bloomsday in Blackrock is fast becoming a very important date on the artistic calendar. Over the past number of years a Play on Ulysses adapted and directed by Nastaise Leddy and Iris Park has had rave reviews and attracted large crowds to the Village Square. The BBA very enthusiastically supports the continued success of this event in Blackrock.

Other Events: With the newly revamped Village Square there is a lot of potential to stage open air events and the BBA is looking at a number of possibilities, top of these being an event to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
