St Patrick’s Day in Blackrock
Great weather, great participation, great enjoyment!

St Patrick’s Day brought much colour, activity and merriment to Blackrock Park and Blackrock Village!  The day started with the Stedfast Brass Band entertaining the 600 children and their families in Blackrock Park and they were joined by the legendary Mr Podzo who used his many tricks to enthrall the children and keep them in high spirits!  The serious business started at noon, after Leas Cathaoirleach Eva Dowling had officially opened the event, when the various races took place and the children got their moment of glory in chasing their favourite Leprechaun!   In the afternoon all the entertainment was in the Village with distribution of goody bags, face painting, balloon shaping and magic – all keeping the children suitably entertained!   Music was provided by 4 excellent groups – Aiteal, Comhaltas Youth, School of Rock House Band and the Blackrock Ukulele Group.  Special thanks also to Blackrock Tidy Towns for carrying out the post event street clean-up.

A huge thank you to all our sponsors!

Tom Feeney, Mr Podzo and Leas Cathaoirleach Eva Dowling

Village businesses really stepped up to the plate this year and this enabled to us to put on a bigger and better show to celebrate our national holiday.

Granada FC are heading to Paris again in May 2024, for the next instalment of the Granada FC – Vincennes FC football exchange, this time with their Under 11s and Under 12s boys.

Supported by local public representatives, organisations such as the Blackrock Business Association and many others, these trips are now a regular feature of the deepening activity between the twin towns of Blackrock and Vincennes.

Since official ties were established between the two towns in 2019, there has been significant development of relations among organisations in business, culture, tourism and sport – and Granada FC are proud to represent Blackrock’s footballing community on these trips.

Last week, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council County Hall hosted the kit presentation to the players, who were thrilled to take part in the activity. They look forward to the football they’ll play, and the friends they’ll make in Vincennes.
