The Christmas Season opens with
Santa in Blackrock!

Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan, Santa, Séamus Carroll (Manager, Blackrock Village Centre)

Santa, his band of helpers, and Séamus Carroll, Manager of the Blackrock Village Centre, made a triumphant trip through Blackrock Village on Sunday 26 November 2023!   Together with Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan, Santa performed the very important duty of switching on the Christmas Lights before heading off to perform the second part of his mission in the Blackrock Centre.  There he spent several hours entertaining the many children who came to see him.  This officially began the Christmas Season in Blackrock.  Our thanks to Santa, to the Cathaoirleach and to the Blackrock Village Centre for participating in this great annual event.  The music on the street was provided by the Blackrock Ukulele Group under the leadership of Paddy Quigley.  Our thanks to the group and also to Jim Kenny (Centra) who once again did all the hard work in getting the tree and lights in place for the big switch-on.

Vincennes welcomes Irish TY Students!

Blackrock’s partnership with Vincennes (Paris) continues to grow, with many cultural, sporting and educational connections now going from strength to strength.  Forming a connection at secondary school level though has proved elusive, but Stepaside Educate Together Secondary School has vigorously taken up the challenge on behalf of Dun Laoghaire County.

This month,15 students from TY, 5th & 6th year made history as they ventured on the school’s first-ever French exchange, immersing themselves in the enchanting surroundings of Vincennes, Paris. The young ambassadors, hosted by students from partner school Lycée Hector Berlioz, embraced the opportunity to explore the cultural treasures of the City of Light, and wasted no time expanding their cultural horizons beyond the classic attractions, with visits to The Irish Embassy and the mysterious Catacombs.  A visit to Père Lachaise Cemetery provided a solemn moment for reflection on the lives of many notable figures, such as Oscar Wilde and Marcel Proust, Jim Morrison and Edith Piaf.

There is much excitement already about the French students’ return visit to Ireland in April 2024.
