St Patrick’s Day Festival Plans
swing into Action!
Preparations already well underway for St Patrick’s Day 2024

Leprechaun Chase 2024

The St Patrick’s Day Festival with Leprechaun Chase is now firmly established in the Blackrock calendar.  It gets better each year and there are exciting plans to enhance it even further this year.  We have applied to DLRCoCo to increase the number of children participating from 500 to 600 to cope with the growing demand for tickets, so we expect to pack the Park and Street on 17 March 2024.   We have also applied to extend the Main Street road closure part way up Rock Hill so this will allow more space for enjoyment of the music and entertainment.

Registration will again be via Eventbrite and this will become live nearer the time.  As always, over the coming month or so, we will be looking for volunteers to help with stewarding ….  and sponsors to help with funding.  We want this to be another great event for both the Blackrock residential and business community!

Blackrock Footfall

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council installed state-of-the-art technology at Blackrock Main St in December 2022. The technology analyses road user movements on a continuous 24/7/365 basis and provides highly accurate, robust data on footfall flows and movement patterns. The sensors are able to automatically recognise and provide data for different road user classifications including: pedestrian movements, cyclists, cars, motorbikes, vans, lorries, HGVs and buses. No images or personal data, including mobile phone data, is captured or stored in the process.

Key figures

  • Highest recorded pedestrian movements in a day to date reached 13,750 on Friday 17/03/2023
  • Average number of daily pedestrian movements is 7,636
  • Highest number of pedestrian movements recorded in a week was on week commencing 04/09/2023 with a total of 64,066
  • Average number of weekly pedestrian movements is 53,325

Hart Gallery seeks new home

Hart Gallery seeks new home

Hart Gallery at Frascati Centre is looking for a new home in Blackrock. Owner Jennifer Hart says that Frascati Centre has been a wonderful place for her.  It has also given her the opportunity to help many people to develop their careers.  What she has also learned is that many people who come to see the art benefit from seeing it in a space where they can stop running and take time out.

Jennifer says that art is what ties communities together.  It transcends cultures and is the soul of the community, binding and permeating the very deepest part of us.  So Jennifer needs to find a space in the middle of Blackrock that can offer exhibition space, studio space, workshops, gallery and a cup of tea for those who need it.  If you can help please contact us by clicking here.
