Revamp of George’s Avenue to commence on Monday 24th May 2021
DLR Council are currently finalising arrangements for improvements to Georges Ave that will start with resurfacing of the avenue and this will be carried out during the week of 24 May 2021 as far as possible in the evening/nights. The works are expected to take 3-4 days. Following the resurfacing, further public realm improvements will take place, with the aim of having the finished product available to George’s Avenue businesses by 7 June 2021 – in time for the recommencement of outdoor dining. Separately, negotiations are ongoing with the HSE with a view to making the unused outdoor space to the side of the HSE Clinic available to customers who would like a quiet area in which they can sit down and eat food purchased from Le Pastis and Mellow Fig.
Please note the Council timetable for next week (commencing 24 May 2021):
- Gully replacements along George’s Avenue Monday/Tuesday next week
- Resurfacing to take place on Wednesday. The Council are reviewing if it will be possible to do the entire road on Wednesday with a very early start (approx 7am) and work through the day. This may require coning off the parking on Tuesday. This would minimise the time it would take (but potentially make it more disruptive than it could be if carried out in smaller bites.

DLRCoCo have launched a new initiative and website this month – dlrBETA. The dlrBETA project aims to engage with the public and to assess submissions from the public on ideas that you have for small scale improvements to the public realm.
A dedicated new website – www.dlrbeta.ie – will act as a platform for sourcing good ideas from the public and seeing if DLR can turn them into small scale test projects.
The focus will be on very small-scale projects and we will be prioritising which ideas will be trialled in one specific location. The trials will be monitored and assessed for effectiveness and implemented where possible.
The nature of the project is that these will be very much trial interventions, being tested in the field, for a period of 3 – 6 months. The Council will then consider if the trial projects are in any way feasible for developing out on a wider basis over time. The Council welcomes submissions and suggestions from everyone!
The DLR Drug and Alcohol Task Force is preparing a new, post COVID-19 Strategic Plan, for the period 2022-25, and they hope that members of the community: parents, community and voluntary organisations, businesses, schools and relevant services, will take this opportunity to Have Your Say in helping to guide this strategy.
Further information about how they plan to get your views are in the attached pdf – click here. It includes the opportunity to make written submissions and also an invitation to attend online consultations.
