For five years now the BBN has organised a Leprechaun Chase in Blackrock Park as part of our St Patrick’s Day celebrations.  It has been a very successful event and has improved in content each year.  Last year again we had a total of 2,000 people in the park!

This year, however, we have no volunteer project managers and unless somebody from the business or residential community with event management experience comes forward immediately, we will have to cancel the Blackrock Park element.  Is there anybody out there who would take on this challenge?  As happens each year, the BBN will take care of raising sponsorship and also deal with all licenses and permissions.  Please contact blackrockbn@gmail.com if you can help us.   It would be a shame to see this great event disappear!

The Big Blackrock Survey

Blackrock Business Network has partnered with iReach Insights, a Blackrock based independent Market Research Agency.  We would like you to participate in an online survey we are conducting to gain feedback from our valued residents and visitors to Blackrock Village to help shape the future of the area.

On completion of this survey each participant will be entered into a draw to win 1 of 5 Gift or Shopping Vouchers worth €50 each.

The survey will take approximately 4-5 minutes to complete, so please look out for an email invite from byrne.oisin@ireachhq.com in the coming days. We would like as many people as possible to take the survey, so when you see the invite, please circulate to family and friends in the area. Thank you.

Meeting with Blackrock Gárdaí

The BBN had a very useful meeting and exchange of views with the Blackrock Gárdaí recently.  It was agreed that we would meet on a more regular basis to exchange views and to raise the level of communication and cooperation.  The Gárdaí are very keen to promote crime prevention and included below are some advice and tips to retailers on how to reduce theft and loss from their stores.

Vincennes Youth donate Seed Box to Blackrock Library

On 3 January 2020 a group of 15 young people (mostly first year university students) travelled from Vincennes to Blackrock to visit their new partner town.  They presented a seed box to senior librarian Aisling Donnelly of Blackrock Library and then went on a tour of the Blackrock Scout facilities.  After a nice lunch in Vanilla Pod they went for a walk in Blackrock Park before heading in to Dublin via Dart.   They brought the greetings of Mayor Charlotte Libert Albonel of Vincennes to the people of Blackrock.  Councillor Barry Ward who is a fluent French speaker joined the group for lunch.

Business Support Grant 2020 (4% to 10% of Rates Bill)

Businesses operate in a difficult environment.  To alleviate some of the pressure in 2017 a new business support scheme by DLRCoCo for eligible ratepayers was introduced as part of the 2017 budgetary process and approved by Members at their meeting held in March 2018.

For 2020 the Council has expanded and enhanced the scheme providing for graduated grant payments dependent on the level of rates payable with the grant varying from 10% to 4% of the 2017 rates bill. The amount of the 2020 grant payable to qualifying ratepayers will be calculated as follows:

Rates Payable 2017                          2020 Grant                 Maximum Grant

Less than or Equal To €3,000 ……. 10% of Rates Bill ………………€300

Between €3,001- €5,000 …………….. 8% of Rates Bill ……………… €400

Between €5,001 – €10,000 ………….. 6% of Rates Bill ……………… €600

Between €10,001 – €20,000 ……….. 4% of Rates Bill ……………… €800
